Making Your Own Votive CandlesVotive candles are probably amongst the easiest type of candles which you can make. Nothing adds charm to a room like Votive candles. On average, you can expect your Votive candles to burn for about 15 hours each and consume pretty much all the wax needed for its creation. A candle which is properly crafted will liquefy to a certain degree while burning. Only burn Votive candles in a holder intended for Votives. Below you can read a few simple steps which will make producing your very own Votive candles possible. You will have to secure wax which is suitable for such candles. Wax additives also need to be purchased, but only if you need them for wax formulation. Fragrance oil and dye are optional, but wicks which are pre-tabbed and designed for Votive candles are not. You will also need metal molds for your candles, a pouring pot and a thermometer. Firstly, you will want to prepare your wax mixture. You want to melt your wax using double boilers until it reaches the temperature of 175° F. After the wax has melted, add your desired additives and mix. After the additives, add fragrance oil and dye. Before you pour wax, you might want to coat the molds with a thin lair of release agent. Pam-type spray, used for cooking, and silicone spray are your options. You only need to do this when dealing with new molds. After that, you will want to pour the wax. You need to place the molds for your Votive candles on a surface lined like a newspaper in order to catch spills. Your wax needs to be at the right pouring temperature of 175° F so that you can fill the molds until you reach the lip. You do not want the wax to over-flow. You should also not pour too low, since you may be getting seam lines as a result, and you do not want that, you need to save about 20 percent of your wax in order to use it in the re-pour step we will be getting into a little later. You should not go anywhere near the heat source with it. You will also want to add pre-tabbed wicks after the wax for your Votive candles has cooled off. Re-pour some wax after the original wax completely cools down. After your wax for the Votive candles has cooled down completely, it will shrink, and, as a result, the hole which has been left will need to be filled using the 20 percent wax leftovers mentioned earlier. You will have to melt the wax down, as described in this article. You will need to pour at a hotter temperature this time, 190 degrees, compared to the 175 degrees when you have poured for the first time. The temperature has been increased so that it facilitated adhesion. After your wax reaches an appropriate temperature, it is time to fill molds as the next step towards obtaining your Votive candles. Now remove Votive from mold. That's all there is to making your very own Votive candles. You should remember to only burn Votive candles in a holder specially designed for them. Now you can design the Votive candles you have made yourself and add the atmosphere you needed to your very own home. |
